Champagne & Sparkling Wine
Champagne is a sparkling wine that is produced in the Champagne region of France, located about 90 miles northeast of Paris. It is made from a blend of three grape varieties: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier. The production process for Champagne involves a secondary fermentation in the bottle, which gives the wine its distinctive bubbles. Champagne is typically enjoyed as an aperitif or with desserts and is often served at special occasions such as weddings and New Year’s Eve celebrations.
Sparkling wine refers to any wine that has bubbles, and it can be produced using a variety of methods. Some sparkling wines are made using the same method as Champagne, while others are produced using a cheaper, quicker process called the “Charmat method,” in which the secondary fermentation takes place in a tank rather than in the bottle. Sparkling wines come in a range of styles and can be made from a variety of grape varieties, including Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Grigio, and others. Like Champagne, sparkling wine is often enjoyed as an aperitif or with desserts and is a popular choice for special occasions.
